The week of June 19th, 2022

Warmer weather is on the way! Eighty degrees and sunny by the weekend which almost seems odd given the long, cool, wet spring. It is always so outstanding and remarkable to watch the plants across our farm respond to the approach of Summer Solstice. I am literally watching things grow by inches each day, buds forming and opening rapidly and the weeds multiplying beneath my feet. This connection between the plant world and the cycles of the sun never ceases to amaze me. Some absolutely gorgeous, new blooms popping this week!

Welcome to the photo journal of my season.

It has been an exceptionally cool and wet spring with record lows (including a last frost date of May 13th here at the farm when it was thirty-one degrees) and record rainfall. Most of my field blooms are a couple of weeks late; plants in the annual and tender perennial hoop houses are thriving, although even a few of these varieties are a bit behind schedule given lower than anticipated night time lows. The great news is that the first two peonies have bloomed and dozens more are just behind them.
